Your Audience Cares About Quality Media... Why Don't You?

1294754_82146502Every once in a while, my faith in humanity is restored.  People still care.

They care about quality, that is.  I woke up this morning to an article on Deadline Hollywood, stating that "web viewers still care about audio and video quality."  This is according to a survey by video tech giant Avid, which polled 3,000 people in the United States, the UK, Germany and Brazil about video streaming.  While the survey may have slanted a little more into the realm of commercial television and video on demand, one thing was clear -- the people demand quality!

A decisive 65% of those polled indicated that audio and video quality are the "strongest driver of viewer engagement."

I think the message is simple -- it pays to do good media.  Hear that?  No more sluffin' off with your Flip cams and iPhones.  Hands off that Windows Movie Maker, my good man!  It's time to embrace better tools, like real, honest-to-God video cameras with zooms that move actual glass.  It's time to use a microphone -- yeah, you!  On-board microphones are strictly for care-free family vacations and phone calls only!  It's time to shoot with intent and edit with purpose.  Make those videos tight, informative and just entertaining enough to engage without annoyance.

All in all, "making stuff for the web" isn't going to cut it anymore.  It's time to tell stories, be authentic, and make the best content you can!  Get to it!
